The new cricketing sensation of the state, Manzoor Ahmad Dar also known as Pandav departed to Chandigarh on Monday afternoon to play in Indian Premier League (IPL) season 11 for Kings XI Punjab.
Manzoor Pandav told Kashmir Post before his departure that he is excited to join his team camp at Mohali.
“I am very much excited to play in IPL besides to meet and attend camp with renowned and elite international players,” he expressed.
He further said that it will be a great learning experience for him to play with the world class cricketers.
The gifted all-rounder was bought by Kings XI Punjab at a whooping price of Rs. 20 lakh in IPL auction held on January 29th this year.
Meanwhile, Dar has been consistently practicing to improve his game for the upcoming IPL.
“My preparation is at peak and was going through practice sessions in Kashmir as well at my individual level,” he adds.
Manzoor further said that IPL is one of the biggest and reputed tournaments of the world and he will put his serious efforts to give his best performance.
“We have to attend camp at Mohali and almost all team mates (players) will join the camp to get coaching and grooming tips from internationally reputed coaches” he adds.
The 24-year old, hails from Shigunpora, Sumbal village of district Bandipora and is the second cricket sensation from Jammu and Kashmir to make his way in IPL after Parvez Rasool, who remained unsold this season.
Meanwhile, Manzoor was among the three names from Jammu and Kashmir who were approved by franchisees to go under hammer this season which includes International cricketer of the state Parvez Rasool, and pacer Umar Nazir but Manzoor is the only cricketer from J&K to make it to this season of IPL for Kings XI Punjab.
The Kings XI Punjab are a franchise cricket team based in Mohali, Punjab, and the team owners are Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia, Karan Paul, and Mohit Burman.
The team will play under the supervision of head coach, Virender Sehwag and under the captainship of Ravichandran Ashwin. The team comprises of 21 players in total with 10 batting all-rounder besides batsman and bowlers.
The local capacity of Kings XI Punjab is 19 comprising of Ravichandran Ashwin (captain) Yuvraj Singh (all-rounder), Manzoor Dar (all-rounder), Akshar Patel (all-rounder), Rishi Dhawan (all-rounder), Pradeep Sahu (all-rounder), Mayank Dagar (all-rounder), Yogesh Golwalker (all-rounder), Mayank Agarwal (batsman), Karun Nair (batsman), Akshdeep Nath (batsman), Manoj Tiwary (batsman), Ankit Rajpoot (bowler), Karanveer Singh (bowler), K.L Rahul (wicketkeeper-batsman), Parvinder Awana (bowler), Mohit Sharma (bowler), and Barinder Sran (bowler).
The team also comprises of ten foreign cricketers including Glenn Maxwell (all-rounder), Chris Gayle (all-rounder), Marcus Stoins (all-rounder), David Miller (batsman), Aaron Finch (batsman), Mitchell Jhonson (bowler), Ben Dwarshuis (bowler), Andrew Tye (bowler), Beuran Hendricks (bowler), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (bowler).
Moreover, IPL which is the professional T-20 cricket tournament will likely kick off on 7th April and Kings XI Punjab will likely face Delhi Daredevils in its first match on 8th April at IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali.
